Nestled between Bayou Jacob and Bayou Plaquemine in the heart of the Atchaflaya National Heritage Area, The Island has paid great respect to the beautiful natural landscape that envelops the community.  For over a decade environmental responsibility has been an important mission of its developers, A. Wilbert's Sons, LLC.  From wood duck houses to enhance the aviary habitat, to the use of solar panels for powering the clubhouse and golf carts, to respecting the neighboring alligators that call the surrounding waterways home, The Island is an example of living in harmony with their unique Louisiana ecology.
